The application provides precise color measurements, optionally utilizing a white reference to compensate for varying lighting conditions, thus improving measurement accuracy.

Using the device’s camera, the app measures colors in real time and functions as a live color picker (color grab) or color detector. It is also known as a colorimeter.

Supported Color Spaces

The Color Meter application currently supports a variety of color models including RGB, RGB in Hex format, HSL, HSI, HSB, and HSP (Hue/Saturation-based models), along with CIELAB, OKLAB, OKLCH, XYZ, YUV, and the subtractive color models CMYK and RYB—these last two primarily used in painting and dyeing industries. Additionally, it supports Munsell, RAL, HTML standard colors, and a comprehensive set of color names across 40 languages.

The interface allows viewing all supported color spaces simultaneously, clicking on individual ones for graphical representation, hiding or reordering them according to user preference.

The Role of the White Reference

A notable feature of Color Meter is its innovative use of a white paper reference for automatic calibration. This technique adjusts for ambient lighting variations—both in color and intensity—ensuring measurements are more consistent and reliable.
